THE DESIGN

The monochromatic look of the Tonda PF Skeleton and its movement is accentuated by the lack of traditional jewel bearings, typically made of rubies. Instead, Parmigiani Fleurier watchmakers utilized zirconium jewels to achieve this colorless look so as not to distract from the beauty of the movement.

Looking at the indicators, we are treated to the familiar Delta-shaped hands in solid gold consistent through the Tonda PF line. Slim and long, they're almost entirely open-worked. The bezel, which is crafted out of solid platinum, is a reference to the early Toric models with a polished element and an outer surface that is knurled by hand. Rather than using the same steel as the rest of the case and bracelet, Parmigiani Fleurier has elected to work with this highly precious metal, not for exclusivities sake but because it provides a better, shinier play with light and a more artisanal feeling once polished by hand.

THE MOVEMENT

Unusual concerning this offering is its self-winding feature, where most skeletonized watches are wound by hand; the PF777 is equipped with a full-sized open-worked rotor mass in 22k rose gold. This oscillating weight includes a floating "PF" logo set in sapphire at its center. This rotor winds bi-directionally, allowing for an impressive 60 hours of running autonomy. The PF777 has been equipped with INCABLOC shock absorption technology which protects it from less-than-optimal use.
